Key Job Description

Work in Finishing, Printing and Insert Folding departments. Feed product into insert and gluing machines; catch material off printing press. Pack finished pieces from machines into cases or onto pallets/carts. Inspect product, read and fill out job paperwork. Assist machine operators/technicians with work center setup and housekeeping.

Essential Job Functions

  • Read all job-related paperwork.
  • Accurately complete job-related paperwork, including time sheets, production and defect reports.
  • Assist with machine and area line clearances; including removing all material from previous job.
  • Visually inspect product to detect defects and variances from approved sample or proof. This includes inspection of color, copy, print-to-print position, print-to-cut register, and other defects.
  • Perform and record quality checks throughout the production process; comply with all procedures required by Quality Assurance and SOPs; notify appropriate personnel of defects and variances.
  • Use hand pallet jack to transport products and material.
  • Maintain cleanliness & organization of department and area around machines.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance as needed.

In Finishing:

  • Lift cartons out of material bins or from pallets.
  • Grasp cartons while fanning them to inspect.
  • Place cartons into machine.
  • Pull sample cartons per quality assurance requirements.
  • Clear jams to keep machines running.
  • Lift cartons from conveyor belt.
  • Operate Stak Kounter to count product.
  • Verify accuracy of case labels; adhere to case pack information.
  • Place cartons into shipping container.
  • Place ID number on each corrugated case packed.
  • Weigh cartons/blanks.
  • Assemble corrugated cases.
  • Access data from computer; use ERP system to create labels for cases and pallet inventory reference. Use electronic scanning device to scan individual case and pallet labels into inventory. Complete label accountability form.
  • Assist Operator and other Finishing Department personnel as needed.
  • Sort cartons for defects offline.

In Insert Department:

  • Lift sheets of paper out of material bins or from pallets.
  • Visually inspect flat printed sheets of paper while loading paper into machines.
  • Inspect product to detect defects and variances during the production process.
  • Operate folding equipment to clear jams and keep machines running.
  • Use a ruler to measure product.
  • Operate iCount to count product.
  • Record tray counts and final case counts on job paperwork.
  • Set up and operate shrink-wrap machines.
  • Access data from computer; use ERP system to create labels for cases and pallet inventory reference. Use electronic scanning device to scan individual case and pallet labels into inventory. Complete label accountability form.
  • Assist other Insert Department personnel as needed.

In Printing:

  • Assist with press make ready and wash up.
  • Pick up product from conveyor.
  • Grasp cartons while fanning them to visually inspect product at delivery end to detect defects and variances from approved sample and/or okayed press sheet.
  • Perform P306.00 for any press shutdown. 100% inspect cartons where defects were removed.
  • Discard defective cartons into designated receptacles.
  • Pull sample cartons per quality assurance requirements.
  • Clear jams to keep machines running.
  • Place cartons from press onto/into pallet/cart/basket in an organized manner; maintain consistent height of carton stacks to ensure accurate counts.
  • Operate Stak Kounter to count product.
  • Access data from computer; use ERP system to create labels for cases and pallet inventory reference. Use electronic scanning device to scan individual case and pallet labels into inventory. Complete label accountability form.
  • Complete load tags and prepare product for shipment; band loads using banding guns when necessary.

In all departments:

  • Maintain expected standards of productivity while adhering to all customer quality requirements and expectations.
  • Communicate with operators, technicians, quality personnel and supervisors about machine issues relating to productivity and quality assurance.
  • Monitor condition of machinery and report unsafe conditions and/or needed repairs to supervisor and/or technician.
  • Be dependable, on time to work and at work consistently, regular and overtime hours and weekends with short notice.
  • Adhere to all company rules, policies/procedures and all Quality Assurance policies and procedures.
  • Meet all established standards of conduct and work performance and safety requirements.
  • Develop teamwork and positive relationships with co-workers.

Non-essential Job Functions:

  • Sweep work area and perform other housekeeping tasks to ensure plant is clean, neat and organized.
  • Operate ream cutter to produce layer boards.
  • Operate compactor to dispose of waste.
  • Operate shredder to dispose of waste product.
  • Use hot glue gun and heat gun.
  • Train personnel to perform Production Associate job.
  • Operate an air hammer.

Other requirements of this position include:

  • Meticulous attention to safety requirements.
  • Ability to read and comprehend information on job jacket, load tags and accurately perform quality checks.
  • Ability to detect small defects on product.
