Polar Cutter Operator, Kenosha
My role as the Polar Cutter Operator involves cutting inserts. After the inserts are printed on full press sheets, I cut them down to the proper specifications – the final size of the unfolded flat insert. I typically start my day reviewing the pallets and stacks of materials that need to be cut which were staged for me by our department manager. I make big sheets into small sheets. One challenge, or more of a realization I face, is that there is only one shot to make a proper cut. Once you hit the cut buttons, you are done. There is no ‘do over’. It has to be right the very first time.
What I enjoy most about my job is the physical activity of my job. It is definitely a physical job manipulating a lift of full press sheets from a pallet, placing it on the jogger, centering it in the cutter, and repalletizing the final flat sheets. I also love to see the finished product after it has been cut and folded.
When I think about the Colbert brand and what it means to me, it’s about trying my best to make the piece look its best. I am the only one responsible for my work. We are all here to make the company successful. One of my favorite quotes is, “The sum is greater than its equal parts.” We must do our best to measure up to our Pride values. We have to work diligently toward the goal of making a great product. If we don’t do that, our competitors will.
I enjoy working for a family-owned company. I have my whole life. I enjoy the people I work with, and I feel we are a close-knit group of people in my department.
